Privacy / cookies / local storage
Small data. Clear purpose.
This policy describes the limited browser storage used by nat.io, what each item does, and how to change your optional analytics choice.
Summary
The site uses a small amount of storage for explicit jobs.
Optional analytics is loaded only after acceptance. Preference storage remembers that choice. A functional cookie keeps the Question of the Day sequence stable. Authentication storage is used only if an authenticated tool is opened.
For a broader educational discussion of cookie rules, see the related field note.
Optional analytics
Aggregate usage measurement is opt-in.
Google Analytics 4 may be used to understand aggregate traffic and which content is useful.
- Loaded only after optional analytics is accepted.
- Common cookie names include
_gaand_ga_*. - Cookie names and duration can vary by browser, configuration, and session.
- Rejecting or later disabling analytics prevents optional analytics from loading afterward.
Preference storage
Your choice is remembered locally.
The key nat_cookie_consent_v1 is stored in browser local storage. It
contains only the preference state accepted or rejected so the site
can apply the same choice on a later visit.
Functional storage
Two features may store operational state.
Question of the Day
The cookie nat_qotd_anchor_midnight_v1 stores a local-midnight timestamp. It
keeps the daily sequence stable and synchronized between the homepage and archive.
Authenticated assistant tools
If an authenticated flow under /tools/assistant/* is used, a signed session cookie
may maintain login and security state. It is not created merely by reading public content.
Your controls
Change or clear the choice whenever you want.
- Use Cookie Settings in the footer to accept or reject optional analytics.
- Clear cookies and local storage through your browser to remove saved site state.
- Browser privacy controls and content blockers may provide additional restrictions.
